STORYTELLING WITH INFANTS

  1. ADVANTAGES OF STORYTELLING

  1. 2. THE DEVELOPMENT OF LISTENING SKILLS  to get the main idea or plot without necessarily understanding everything.

  2. 3. THE ACQUISITION OF NEW VOCABULARY.  Most of the new language in stories is perfectly contextualized, repeated more than once and sometimes they are accompanied by pictures.

  3. 4. THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CHILD´S LITERARY COMPETENCE. The child´s ability to understand and enjoy literature which involves skills acquired through extensive reading over his life.

  4. 5. THE COMMUNICATIVE EXCHANGE INVOLVED IN STORIES . The level of interaction between the storyteller and the audience and between the individual listeners. For example, when the storyteller asks the listeners to guess about what would happen next in the story.

  5. 6. MOTIVATION. If the story is interesting and told in an appealing way, children will normally pay attention through to the end. Motivation has to do with emotions, which are considered crucial in all learning processes.

  6. 7. STIMULATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE IMAGINATION. The nature of the story, the recreating of scenes and characters and the ideas in the story encourage the child´s creativity.
